Insider Workshops - 24 Hour Logo Contest

I am in the process of creating some new branding for my business, Insider Workshops.

Insider Workshops provides hands-on, practical training for

entrepreneurs and small businesses looking to profit from the internet.

I am running a very small quick contest lasting 24 hours.

I will choose TWO WINNERS who will receive a ticket to the Blogging Workshop taking place on Sat 17th April in London. At this event, you will arrive with your laptop and leave with your entire blog business set up by the end of the day as my expert team and I walk you step-by-step through the entire process. Ticket price is otherwise £297.

So here's what you need to do:

Simply leave a comment below telling me which logo you like from the six options available here. And if none of these, please let me know your thoughts on how I can improve any specific one or start from scratch. I'm completely open to your ideas.

I will then choose the two winning comments from a draw, tomorrow Wed 14th April at noon.

Hello, Kavit and everybody

I like this Logo of Fish in Hat (though I understand it should read Insider, not Inisder Workshops) as it is the most original, eye catching and attention grabbing design out of the six versions on offer. It is also fun and I would always go with something that is easy on the eye and entertaining.

I would combine no 2 and 5. That is having the text from 5 with the pencil piture from 2 in the bubble/circle - yellow pencil with the grey background as in 2. Leaving the text as it is in no 5. Yellow and blue are very good colour in my opinion. Although I do like purple, it is for things connected to spirituality, not really relevant here. And it seems as if the bottle is broken and parts are missing. There is a spelling mistake in that one - by the way. I cannot really give a reason why I do not like 1 and 3. Both ideas are good just somehow don't fit or don't ahve the desired effect on me...

Of course these are my thoughts only...

Hi Kavit, I really prefer design No.1 because: The two logos with the pencil drawing feel a little 'dated', the logo with the dancing man (!) in a circle is fun and gives a feeling of energy but doesn't signify to me any connection with workshops, same with the great fish logo - fun but not relevant. The 2 boxes work on many levels for me. Firstly there is the obvious aspect of the customer being included, 'on the in' 'being given 'inside information' which is subliminally conveyed by the text 'insider' being written inside the box. Then there is the second box outside that, with the implication that you will think 'outside the box' in delivering the workshop materials giving participants knowledge they would not be likely to find elsewhere. Thirdly the b & w colour scheme is simple, pleasing to the eye and 'timeless'. I think logo No.1 is the most memorable and the one which will make most 'sense' to possible customers for some years to come. Great contest. Regards, Ann, pippin011@aol.com

I don't like any of them. As a graphic designer obviously I look for something that meets the brief I am not sure what you did brief but to me I would have started with "hands-on, practical training for
entrepreneurs and small businesses looking to profit from the internet" none of these reflect this or presents you as a professional in the field. I'm sorry but to me they look like weak copies of other logo's but all are missing an impact or a clear story or brand.

That aside I really enjoy your workshops! Keep up the good work.

I'd go for No.1, maybe amended to show people sharing.
Remember too that circles beat squares.

I liked logos 1 and 5. However logo five was too subdued with the shades of blue. How would it look in black and white? The text counter balances the logo but even it is suble. Logo 5 = suble!

Logo 1 is the strongest for me. I would also have preferred a circle, as opposed to a square. Rounded vs sharp edges or shapes.
So for me logo 1 as a circle would win my vote!

I also love the fact that logo one will work when the colours are inverted.

Another strong point for logo 1 is its simplicity. KISS!
Keeping the idea, there is still scope for more FUN with logo 1.
.
What colour would work best? Maybe a different colour on the dot of insider?

As a last note, just looking at logo 1 and seeing what comes to mind, it does evoke :
"LIFTING" - lifting the lid on secrets insiders know?
"PRYING OPEN" - secrets of insiders?

Hope my first impressions are helpful Kavit.

Logo #1 is the strongest but could be modified to add a third layer - the three should then be 'leafed' (layered and offset) behind each other and the colour and opacity of all three adjusted accordingly. I don't understand the dolphin logo in #4 at all, the hat looks silly and the word "inisder" (sic) is misspelt. Logo #5 would be my second choice as long as you replace the bubbles with something else as it looks as if the person is drowning! (although that's the way I often feel with my on-line workload!)

With all due respect i think all 6 logo's are very very poor. You need a logo which is visually striking and bold. Without doubt you need a logo which exhibits your link to IM and Business ..without looking tacky and cliche.

Also when including the name 'Insider Workshops' you need to display it with the www. & .com on either end; in this way the logo without any spiel, acts as advertising and also your coherent with your own message your preaching to prospective clients / customers about using the internet for business and making money.

In my experience you should use the website http://99designs.com/logo-design to get loads of ideas for your logo. This would without doubt be a worthwhile investment as once you post your brief, top designers from around the globe design logos for you. During a period of time which you dictate e.g. 2 weeks, you can view all the designs posted, request any changes you want, then and only then pay for the design you are fully happy with. Basically your utilizing leverage in that rather then relying on one designers efforts your accessing 1000's of talented designers from around the world.

I like logo number #1
Especially the white writing on a blue background
This is for a variety of reasons:
* blue is the colour of communication and I think that is what you're aiming to do in your workshops
* And white on a colour makes the writing stand out
* The 'i' within the graphic for me denotes that this is a personal communication that is relevant just to me as a human being and therefore makes me feel special - like you actually care about me specifically
* I also like the simplicity of this logo - it seems uncomplicated and matter of fact ... I have been on a 2 day workshop with you and that is exactly how i felt when i left your workshop (which I think is quite unusual for and internet training course ... quite often I have walked away from other courses with a feeling that internet marketing is a total mystery that I will never get my head around!!)
* I am presuming that the Insider Workshops are aimed at a UK market at the moment? ... If so then, the 'i' in this logo reminds me of a 'tourist information' logo in the UK - which is a nationally recognised symbol that points people in the right direction for something they are looking for information about
* I also like the enclosed space of the square - it illicits a feeling of safety and of being looked after. That I can walk into an Insider workshop and once I'm in there that i will be well looked-after and that the promises that have been made will be followed through.

Logo #3, as its people working with people, especially as you will be on training. Represents people together, thinking working along side each other, helping each other. At least that is my quick thought on this one. Runner up candidate no 1 as previous simlar reasons.

I like the first logo as it is simple and eye catching. To me the "i' represents me entering a workshop - the start of something exciting and new.
However, I wonder if a circle may be better as it would represent several things such as belonging to a special circle of people who have or are taking the workshops and of course a circle signifies "global" which is thinking big, out of the box and reaching out to people all over the world!

Hi Kavit,
Logo No.1, I think because 1) it also shows it from 'inside out', 2) the initial i gives me the impression of a skier moving easily forward and 3) the dot of the i as the 'head' of the skier appears to be looking at life from a higher perspective.
